The Language of Belief
Affirmations get overused. Cheesy messages get ignored. The words we use are intentional, powerful and proven to bring out the best in people. Use this vocabulary to make belief visible on your walls, halls and shared spaces.
Words Are Powerful
We know from years of first-hand experience that certain words have the power to lift people out of suffering and into a better future and others can destroy lives. Some phrases are good but do not carry the same weight as something like "I BELIEVE IN YOU" when it comes to genuinely investing belief in a person and inspiring them to take positive action.
Because that is the mission of Show Me A Sign, we have carefully curated the following phrases to maximize the potential of those outcomes. Every phrase you see below has been scored against a three-part rubric so you can see exactly why the strongest ones work and understand what separates them from phrases that are merely encouraging.
How Phrases Are Scored
Each phrase is rated 1–5 on three criteria. Max score: 15.
Invests Belief
Does it feel like someone is placing real confidence and trust into another person, not just saying something nice? A phrase that invests belief goes beyond compliments. It says: I see something in you and I mean it.
Builds Forward Confidence
Does it move the person toward their next step? The goal isn't only to comfort. It's to strengthen. A strong phrase leaves someone feeling more capable of what comes next.
Activates Potential
Does it call out what the person is capable of becoming, not just who they already are? The best phrases awaken something. They don't just affirm; they ignite.
The Phrases
We don't just want to make someone feel good temporarily, we want to have a lasting positive impact on the world so we choose the language we use carefully.

11/15Why It Works
It does four things simultaneously:
Reinforces Identity
People are seen and believed in.
Belief shapes identity. When people consistently feel like they belong, it begins to replace doubt with confidence. Over time, they don’t just receive belief, they start to carry it.
Normalizes Belief
Belief isn’t rare; it’s the culture.
Encouragement isn't reserved for special moments. It's everywhere. When belief becomes normal, isolation shrinks. People feel safer. Stronger. Less alone.
Calls Out Potential
Without pressure or shame.
Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, we name what’s possible. Belief pulls us forward. It reminds us we're not finished yet.
Encourages Action
Their influence matters.
Belief moves. When people know they affect others, they step up. They check in. They lead. And culture begins to change, from the inside out.
