  • Chapter Application Data: School or organization name, location, your role, and other details submitted when applying to start or join a chapter.
  • Action Logs: Records of the Believer Actions you log — including Sign Actions (sign walks, sign runs, sign lines), Belief Actions (belief bombs, social media campaigns, mentorship), associated bystander counts, distances, and timestamps.
  • Gamification Data: Your earned points, Belief Level, monthly points, badge achievements, and leaderboard standings.
  • Donation Information: Billing address and donation history. Payment card details are processed securely through Stripe — we do not store raw card numbers.
  • Impact Stories: Stories and testimonials you voluntarily submit.
  • Communication Data: Messages, feedback, and other communications you send to us.

3. Automatically Collected Information

When you access our website, we may automatically collect:

  • Device Information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
  • Usage Data: Pages visited, time spent on pages, links clicked, and navigation information.
  • Location Data: General geographic location based on IP address, and precise location data you voluntarily provide for chapter or map features.

  • To create and manage your Believer account and dashboard
  • To record and display your Believer Actions, earned points, and Belief Level progression
  • To calculate and publish chapter and individual leaderboard standings
  • To process chapter applications and manage chapter membership and officer assignments
  • To register you for events and communicate event details
  • To process donations and provide donation receipts for tax purposes
  • To send you updates, newsletters, and program information (you may opt out at any time)
  • To send SMS text messages if you have opted in during registration
  • To share your approved impact stories on our website and social media
  • To respond to your inquiries and provide support
  • To analyze usage patterns and improve user experience
  • To detect and address technical issues and security threats
  • To comply with legal obligations

5. SMS & Text Messaging

If you opt in to receive text messages from Show Me A Sign during registration, the following terms apply:

  • We may send you updates, event reminders, and community news via SMS.
  • Message frequency varies.
  • Standard message and data rates may apply.
  • Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe from all SMS messages from us.
  • Reply HELP for assistance.
  • Opting out of SMS will not affect your account or any other communications.
  • We do not sell your phone number to third parties for marketing purposes.

6. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With Your Consent: When you give us explicit permission.
  • Service Providers: With third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf, including Stripe (payment processing), Supabase (database hosting), and email/SMS delivery services.
  • Chapter Leaders: If you join a chapter, your name and contact information may be shared with that chapter's officers to facilitate participation.
  • Public Leaderboards: Your display name and points may appear on public leaderboards. You can control your map and name visibility in your profile settings.
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or government request.
  • Safety and Protection: To protect the rights, property, or safety of Show Me A Sign, our users, or the public.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties or data brokers.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include encryption at rest and in transit, Row Level Security policies on our database, and access controls.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

For school-based chapters, we work with school administrators and follow applicable student privacy laws including FERPA and COPPA.

Donation records are retained as required by nonprofit tax and legal compliance law. Action logs and gamification data are retained for the lifetime of your account unless you request deletion.

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements.
